melatonin by smoke or fire

I love this song because it's something that i can identify with. It talks about a feeling of being upset that never goes away and thats something that i can really understand. whether it's because of physical/emotional problems or just from looking around and seeing what's happening in the world being depressed seems reasonable. Anti-depressants are the most comonly perscribed drugs in America today. "all we can do these days is medicate ourselves to feel sane."

I also love it because it clearly states that its the individual who has the problem it's the rest of the world. I'm happy with the way things are for me. It's everyone else that has the problem.

I think people might have a problem with the revolutionary tone "we'd rather burn this to the ground then give it away to the world". Also i've realized that some people seem to see the takeing of medication to be a flaw. They look at it as if people who take it really could fix their problem themself but are just too lazy or even that they just want the attention. so maybe that could be an issue

  1. If it was everyone else that had the problem wouldn't they be on the drugs?? I understand being depressed about where society is going...but the fact is that we have very little control over what happens in the world...we can only control what little influence we have. And as long as that influence is a positive one I don't really seem what there is to be depressed about.

  2. I really like the lyrics to this song. I appreciate how honest it is, it really calls a lot of people out on their laziness or unhappiness. I like the line, "This misconception of what you want and what it takes to feel free,
this kind of shit will steal your sleep and only lead you to a breakdown." I think a lot of people have this image of what it takes to be happy and never get there, they spend their life waiting for it. Everyone struggles to be happy, I don't believe it comes easily or will come easily to anyone.

  3. Perhaps the real question is...is it worth being depressed about the things many people are depressed about? We let ourselves get worked into a frenzy over material things, which tear people apart and will never last anyway.

Maybe he's right: "It's the world that has to change, not me"
